Since In "Surround Sound" setting " Stereo" shows up instead of " Always PCM". Do NOT choose "Always Dolby Digital or +.Ĭhoose " Best Available" to retain Dolby+ for movies as it will switch automatically between PCM(24 bit mode ULTRAHD) and Dolby+ Surround 48khz mode. So in order to get 24bit to play properly on fire cube gen 2 It has to be set in "Settings>Display&Sounds>Audio>Surround Sound>Stereo (you must see STEREO instead of Always PCM) or " Best Available". Toggling ULTRAHD doesn't change the sample rate of 192khz with the Music HD APP. Note: 192khz sample rate output could still be only 16 bit. Generally most would consider this smearing the quality.
The sample rate still remains at 192khz indicating some kind of software interpolation versus proper sample rate change. One further anomaly was when the source is 24bit/44.1khz. With "Always Dolby or Plus+ there was a large increase in volume when switching between 16b or 24b UltraHd indicating bit chopping.
When I set to dolby digital or + plus the rate would stay at 48khz on my Denon when toggled between 24bit and 16bit. I confirmed when set to " Stereo" 24bit would toggle on and off (meaning in music hd app the bit rate would be 16 or 24bit) but the sample rate remained 192khz. My Denon would show either with the music APP 16bit non-hd mode 48khz dolby digital plus or 192khz PCM in 24bit UltraHD mode.Īnother strange phenomenon is that under Display&Sounds>Audio>Surround Sound choices: " Stereo" instead of " Always PCM" showed up. When the Fire cube is setup for "audio"> surround sound >"best available", I toggled the ultrahd in amazon musicHd app. Plugged the cube back into Denon outputting on arc to Sony TV it began showing " device capability" 24/192khz. Then 24/192khz device capability appeared. I bypassed the denon and went direct to the Sony 850f series. I was able to finally get the fire cube gen 2 to work. Just when you think it is my Denon which has Dolby ATMOS and AURO-Sound ability. Same exact problems with the firestick on the Denon. I spent hours trying different inputs/ hdmi configurations and cables on my Denon-avr/Sony-tv. The Sony TV and Denon AVR have hdcp 2.2 versus older HDCP 1.0 on yamaha. However In standby mode it passes through the Denon to various monitors at 24bit. Yet for some reason it remains at 16bit/192khz on Denon X4X00h series when turned on.
Also 24/96khz works on older 1080p insignia monitor. With firestick 4K I have confirmed on an older Yamaha RX-V2700 with only hdmi 1.2a(1080p) that it can do 24/192khz. Fire O.S is different for each one but "up to date" as of 12-14-20.
Further updates I have tested on firestick 4K, Firestick gen3 2020 and Fire Cube gen 2 with all being updated to 3.3.581 Amazon musicHD APP.
